When updating a company file to QuickBooks 2006 or later, the following error occurs:
Unexpected Error, C=422
followed by:
An error occurred when QuickBooks tried to open the company file. Please try again. If the problem persists, contact Technical support (-1,0) or (-14114, 0).
Why is this happening
This error occurs if QuickBooks encounters damaged data while updating the data file. Generally, the damage existed in the company file prior to the update.
How to fix the problem
To resolve the error, restore the backup to the earlier version of QuickBooks, verify the data integrity, and then rebuild the file. Then update the file again.
Detailed Instructions
To restore and rebuild your prior QuickBooks company file:
Open the older version of QuickBooks. Note: If the newer version of QuickBooks overwrote the older version, uninstall both versions, and then reinstall them to separate folders. This will allow you to work in both versions on the same machine.
Restore the backup that was made during the update process.
After the file is restored, select the File menu and select Utilities > Verify Data.
One of the following messages appears:
"QuickBooks detected no problems with your data." If this message appears, attempt to update the company file in the new version of QuickBooks.,
"Data has lost integrity." If this message appears, rebuild the company file. When the Rebuild has completed, run the Verify utility again, to ensure that all data damage has been repaired.
You should now be able to update the company file.
