How do I set up POP?

POP and SMTP are email protocols that allow you to manage one mail account from another mail program. For example, you can set up POP/SMTP to funnel your Yahoo! Business Email into Outlook Express. When you check your mail, Outlook Express will check your Business Email and download any new messages, and you can send messages as if you're writing from your Business Email account.

Tip: You can also use POP/SMTP to funnel other email accounts into your Yahoo! Business Email. Learn more.

1. Basic POP/SMTP Settings
To set up POP to manage your Yahoo! Business Email, you'll need to change the POP/SMTP settings in your mail program. Your Business Email settings look like this:

Incoming mail (POP3) server:   pop.bizmail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing mail (SMTP) server:   smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com
Use SSL, port: 465, and use authentication
Account name/user name:   Your Business Email address
(such as you@widgetdesigns.com)
Email address:   Your Business Email address
(such as you@widgetdesigns.com)
Password:   Your Business Email password

2. Finding Your Personalized POP/SMTP Settings

If you have a Business Email address that's associated with a Yahoo! ID, you can find your personalized POP/SMTP settings in the Email Control Panel. To access these settings:

  1. Sign in to your Business Control Panel and click the "Email Control Panel" link associated with your plan. The Email Control Panel will open.
  2. Click the "Additional Options" link. Your POP settings are located near the top of the page, under the "Your POP/SMTP Settings" heading.

OR:

  1. Sign in to your Business Email account at http://mail.yourdomain.com (be sure to replace "yourdomain.com" with the domain name associated with your account).
  2. Click the "Options" link in the upper-left corner of the page, then choose "Manage Business Email" from the pull-down menu. (If you're using the original version of Business Email (Classic Interface), the "Options" link is located in the upper-right corner of the page). If for some reason the Manage Business Email link is not available, you can also access the same page by:
    • Selecting "Mail Options" from the "Options" pull-down menu
    • Clicking the "Administration" option on the left side of the page
    • Clicking "Manage Email Addresses"
  3. The Email Control Panel will open in a new window. Once in the Email Control Panel, click the "Additional Options" link. Your POP settings are located near the top of the page, under the "Your POP/SMTP Settings" heading.

If a Business Mail email address was created for you, you can also find your POP settings in the email you received explaining how to activate your address. Business Mail and Custom Mailbox owners and administrators can also find their POP settings in the Additional Options section of their Email Control Panel.

3. Setting Up Your Mail Program
Now you'll enter these personalized settings into your mail program. Each mail program works a bit differently, so you'll need to follow directions for your particular program:

Microsoft Outlook 2002 (XP) and 2003
Microsoft Outlook 98, 2000, and 2002
Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook Express for Macintosh
Eudora 5.1 or higher
Netscape Mail: All versions
IncrediMail Build 618 and higher
Microsoft Entourage 2001 and higher

Don't see your email program in this list? Consult your program's help instructions; they'll most likely have information about setting up POP. (Keep in mind that although other programs will probably work, they might have trouble connecting to our SMTP servers. We officially support only the programs and versions listed above.)
